about

Lift Every Voice is a reimagining of the Black National Anthem, Lift Every Voice & Sing. Because the original song has been so important to the Black community, Boombaz (the amazing producer of this track) and I want to continue in that tradition by having this song give back to the Black community. So here’s the goal: if this song makes $50,000 or more, Boombaz and I will use 1/2 of our earnings to create scholarships for Black students. lyrics

Vamp:
Lift up, lift up your voice (8x)

Verse 1:
Lift every voice and sing
'Til earth and heaven ring
Ring with the harmonies
Of liberty
Let our rejoicing rise
High as the listening skies
Let it resound
Loud as the rolling sea
Sing a song
Full of the faith
The dark past has taught us
Sing a song
Full of the hope
The present has brought us

Chorus:
Lift every voice and sing
Lift every voice, lift every voice and sing
’Til earth and heaven ring
Lift every voice, lift every voice and sing

Rap Verse:
Facing the rising sun of our new day begun
We keep on marchin’ 'til the victory is won
We ‘bout to rise up
We got a steady beat
Slowly but steadily walking the stony road ahead of me
Remember keep your eyes up
God only you can hear our silent tears,
our cries and fears, it’s been a lot of weary years
When will the pressure let up
Prayin’ we stay upon the path, and shine the light we have
Bold, beautiful, and Black (swag)
Keep ya head up
So I’ma do it for Pac and Breonna
for Sandra and my mama
For my students and my papa
My brother and for Baldwin
For Marsha P Johnson
For the LGBTQ
And the gender non-conforming
Do it for the disabled
Our elders and future legacy
Immigrants in them cages and all of our Black identities
Seeking freedom incessantly
Numerous are the enemies
Tried to slaughter our pedigree
Never could tame our energy
We’re more than survivors, we’re conquerors
Call me a victor, I don’t respond to lesser monikers
Matter fact call me free
Matter fact call me queen (queen)
And pass the mic in my cypher so all of our Black is seen and esteemed
Don’t need your permission
To claim what’s ours
The power and liberty you tried to disallow,
Like Franky Beverly, ain’t no stoppin’ us now
Like James Brown, so Black and so proud
Lift your voice up loud

Chorus

Vamp:
Lift up, lift up your voice
(Black people)
Lift up, lift up your voice
(All around the world)
Lift up, lift up your voice
(Lift your voice)
Lift up, lift up your voice
(For the children)
Lift up, lift up your voice
(For the ancestors)
Lift up, lift up your voice
(For joy)
Lift up, lift up your voice
(For freedom)

Chorus

Vamp:
Lift up, lift up your voice
(Black people)
Lift up, lift up your voice
(Let me hear you)
Lift up, lift up your voice
(For love)
Lift up, lift up your voice
(For change)
Lift up, lift up your voice
(A little louder)
Lift up, lift up your voice
(Sing it with power)
Lift up, lift up your voice
(For freedom)
Lift up!
